How to Make the Best Tomato Sandwich

The classic tomato sandwich is perfect simplicity. It’s got nothing but big, juicy tomatoes, mayo, mustard, and a little S&P on white bread. It may not be flashy or likely to win you the title of Top Chef, but it’s an old-school favorite that deserves recognition. Seriously, don’t knock it ’til you try it.

Floyd’s Favorite Tomato Sandwich has a secret. That secret is letting the tomatoes chill with sliced white onion for 8 hours until they are infused with onion-y flavor. Poor onions, they don’t even make it into the finished sandwich. Let’s be honest, though, no one wants to bite down on a big fat slice of raw onion. Not pleasant. It sounds crazy, but the slight bit of heat from the onion really comes through in the end, giving this tomato sandwich a little extra oomph.

Let our #SandwichSchool video below take you through the steps of creating this humble masterpiece. Keep your eyes peeled for the hands in the video; they are actually mine!
